Upholding Integrity
Partnerships with Independent Assessment Providers
The Illinois Association of Independent ABA Providers is committed to fostering ethical, professional, and legally compliant practices in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy. One of the most pressing concerns in our industry is the improper use of in-house assessments by private equity-backed ABA therapy centers. While it is not legal for therapy centers to conduct their own assessments, many large corporate entities are circumventing regulations, leading to conflicts of interest, compromised evaluations, and potential harm to individuals with autism.
To address these concerns and uphold the integrity of autism care, our association prioritizes strong partnerships with independent, licensed assessment providers. By collaborating with qualified professionals, we ensure that individuals with autism receive unbiased, high-quality diagnostic evaluations that adhere to state laws and best practices.
HOW WE WORK
How We Facilitate Connections with Independent Assessors

Creating a Trusted Referral Network
We will establish and maintain a vetted directory of licensed, independent psychologists, neuropsychologists, developmental pediatricians, and other qualified professionals specializing in autism assessments.
Our members will have exclusive access to this network, which will make it easy to connect with trustworthy assessment providers who meet ethical and professional standards.

Providing Education on Legal and Ethical Assessment Practices
We will host webinars, workshops, and informational sessions to educate ABA providers, parents, and stakeholders on the importance of independent assessments.
These events will highlight the risks associated with in-house assessments and emphasize how independent evaluations lead to more accurate diagnoses and better treatment outcomes.

Building Collaborative Relationships
Our association will actively work to foster partnerships between ABA therapy providers and independent assessment professionals through networking events, conferences, and collaboration forums.
We encourage ongoing communication between assessors and ABA professionals to ensure seamless care coordination while maintaining ethical boundaries.

Advocating for Ethical Compliance and Enforcement
We will work alongside policymakers, legal experts, and regulatory bodies to advocate for stricter enforcement against unethical assessment practices.
By raising awareness and pushing for accountability, we aim to prevent corporate entities from illegally exploiting loopholes that allow them to provide in-house assessments.

Supporting Families in Finding Independent Assessments
Many families are unaware that in-house assessments at ABA centers may be illegal and biased. Our association will provide resources to help families find independent providers who can offer objective, high-quality evaluations.
We will create educational materials and guides to empower parents in making informed decisions about their child’s diagnostic process.
